George Telegraph defeat Md Sporting 3-1 in replay
Kolkata | Friday, Jul 25 2008 IST

Underdogs George Telegraph today stopped Mohammedan Sporting's winning run in the Sahara Premier Division Football League, defeating them 3-1 in a rematch at the rain-soaked Barasat stadium.

George Telegraph sunged to a 2-0 lead through second and fourth minute goals from midfielders Beokhokhei and Subho Kumar and prevailed over the potential challengers for the Cup till the last minute.

Md Sporting, having three consecutive wins until today, fought back just after the break and reduced the margin from a Mike Okoro header in the 47th minute.

Nigerian Okoro, who was looking dangerous in the last quarter of the first half, jumped to nod Rajiv's corner to make it 2-1 and brought Md Sporting in the reckoning.

George Telegraph, in their previous game had snatched a point from East Bengal in a drawn match and sealed their supremacy after striker Biswajit Saha headed home from Madukao Francis cross defeating Md Sporting Imran Khan four minutes before end.

Teodore Wrobeh, who was the hero duning the 3-1 win against East Bengal in the last match, was off colour today as he shot wide with only GT goalie Swarup Das at his mercy. Das could not believe that any player of Theo statrue could shot wide from close range.

The win took GT to the third position of eight-team league with eight point from four games and Md Sporting remained with nine points from as many plays. Today's match was a return play in floodlights as rain delayed the game for an hour and earlier one was washed out. Their last match was abandoned in early second half when the score was 0-0.
