NSM, JSM protest against nuke deal, inflation Ahmedabad | Monday, Jul 7 2008 IST
New Socialist Movement (NSM) and Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM) activists today staged a ''dharna'' near the Town Hall here to protest against rising prices of essential commodities and against the nuclear deal. NSM chairman Dr Mukul Sinha, speaking on the occasion, said the nuclear deal would force the country to become dependent on other nations for nuclear fuel just as the country has become dependent for crude oil. Instead of considering alternative energy sources, the UPA governments single-minded effort to tie up with Americans for Uranium-fed reactors is nothing but pushing the nation into slavery, he said. On rising prices of essential commodities, the NSM and JSM demanded that the government should increase the number of fair price shops. -- (UNI) -- 07BY22.xml
