Death, birth registration increased in Haryana

The Haryana Government's decision to transfer registration of births and deaths from police stations to primary health centres in rural areas has increased the percentage of death and birth registration in the state. Haryana Health Minister Kartar Devi said the decision to change the practice of registration of births and deaths in rural areas was taken in 2005 and its results were very encouraging. She said that the Chief Registrar of Haryana has reviewed the registrations made in various districts of the state in the year 2007. It was observed that 94 per cent births and 92 per cent deaths were registered in 2007 while in 2005 just 78.9 per cent births were registered. She said that efforts had been made to create awareness among the people about registration of births and deaths with the help of voluntary organisations. She said that notices were being issued to those nursing homes which did not get births and deaths registered.
