Haryana gets 4 proposals for pvt varsities Chandigarh | Friday, Jul 4 2008 IST
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said five proposals had been received by the government for setting up private universities in the state. These offers, which came in the wake of the implementation of a highly liberal Private University Act to encourage private sector investment in Higher Education, were being studied, he said while addressing a press conference in New Delhi today. He said the state government had decided to implement innovative schemes involving an investment of Rs 485 crore to enhance educational status of students belonging to Scheduled Castes and those hailing from families living below the poverty line. Mr Hooda said comprehensive reforms were being brought about at all levels of education including primary, secondary, colleges and universities to enable the students to cope with the changing scenario. Mr Hooda said that as education was key to success and prosperity, the State Government had introduced incentive based schemes not only from primary to higher education level, but also for technical courses so that the parents of students belonging to weaker sections of the society did not feel hard pressed in educating their children. -- (UNI) -- 04DR62.xml
