Minor fire breaks out in Mumbai Mumbai | Tuesday, May 20 2008 IST
A minor fire broke out in the second floor of Bombay Mutual Life Building, popularly known as Citibank Building, on D N Road in the Fort area of the city tonight. However, no casualty was reported. The fire broke out in the second floor of the five-storeyed heritage building at around 2030 hrs. Six fire tenders and an ambulance were rushed to the spot from Nariman Point and Byculla to control the fire, Fire Brigade sources said. Four people were rescued by the fire fighters from the pitch dark floor and bellowing smoke. The building houses many offices. The fire was brought under control after an hour, the sources added. ''The fire was noticed by night staff working here and they alerted the fire brigade,'' said Narain Das, a chartered accountant who was rescued by the fire fighters. Police officials, who were present at the spot, said the fire was lit by a sweeper, identified as Rathore, who allegedly left it unattended. He had also locked a number of the doors, making movement difficult. He was later taken into police custody. -- (UNI) -- 20BY26.xml
