5 arrested for rape, murder of minor girl

Police have arrested five people, including a minor, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old girl here today. According to the police, Anchal Manor was killed after being raped late last night. The girl's family and neighbours searched for her after she went missing. Her body was found this morning, the police said. Initially, six people had been taken into custody on suspicion, and later five were placed under arrest, police said. A post-mortem examination confirmed the suspicion of the police that the girl had been raped. Those arrested have been identified as Mangesh Kapate (20), Nandkishore Mahadev Kapate (18), Ganesh Vishweshwar Wankhede (19) and Satish Ramdas Warkhade (21). The name of one suspect has not been released, as he is a minor. Mangesh, the girl's neighbour, allegedly lured her away from her house, the police said. An offence has been registered under sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police added. Irked over the incident, a mob set fire to a pan kiosk, ransacked a wayside eatery and blocked traffic for a while in the area before the police persuaded the crowd to disperse. -- (UNI) -- 17BY24.xml
