MTNL reduces STD rates New Delhi | Saturday, May 17 2008 IST
Taking cue from other operators, state-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today slashed STD rates from Rs 1.75 per minute to Rs 1.25 per minute for mobile telephony which will be effective from tomorrow. ''We have reduced STD rates for GSM mobile Dolphin and Trump, and also for MTNL CDMA service Garuda mobile from Rs 1.75 per minute to Rs 1.25 per minute,'' MTNL CMD RSP Sinha told reporters here today on the World Telecom Day. These rates will be applicable on all the tariff plans including lifetime prepaid and postpaid schemes of MTNL, he said, adding that for landline, the STD pulse rate will now be 60 seconds in place of 36 seconds giving a reduction of 40 per cent. With this, STD rates for a landline user will be 80 paise per minute to maximum of Rs 1.20 per minute depending upon the tariff plan of the subscriber. For NCR towns also the pulse rate has been changed from 36 seconds to 60 seconds. MTNL has also launched the new state-of-art IP-based GSM system of additional capacity of 7.5 lakh. All the core equipment like SMS Centre, HLR, Intelligent Network among others have also been replaced by higher capacity state-of-the-art equipment for far better and reliable services, Mr Sinha apprised. -- (UNI) -- 17DC1.xml
