Red Ribbon Express to reach Renigunta on May 23 Tirupati | Saturday, May 17 2008 IST
As part of its nation-wide campaign against Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the Red Ribbon Express train will arrive at Renigunta near here on May 23. Speaking at an awareness meeting organised for SHGs, NGOs and government officials here, District Medical and Health Officer Najiruddin and District Youth Coordinator Sudhakar Reddy said the train would cover 900 districts, travelling a distance of 9,000 km, in the country. The train has seven coaches, including a seminar hall, exibition hall and a training centre for officials and youth. In view of the severe summer heat, it would conduct exibition only in the morning and evening. As part of the programme, two buses would be flagged off to cover all affected villages in the district to create awareness among the public. Stressing the need for establishing AIDS test centres at all PHCs in the district, Mr Najiruddin said all should work unitedly to make the district an 'AIDS-free Zone.' Cultural troups accompanying the train would tour the villages and a rally would be taken out to draw the attention of the public to the issue, he added. -- (UNI) -- 17MS33.xml
