PM hopes good sense will prevail among those opposing deal Bagdogra | Saturday, May 17 2008 IST
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today hoped that good sense will prevail among those opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal saying the agreement was in the best interest of the country. He was asked at a press conference here on his return from a two-day visit to Bhutan whether the May 28 meeting of the UPA-Left coordination committee on the nuclear deal would signal the end of the accord. ''Let us wait and see. I hope good sense will prevail. I have always maintained that the deal is in the best interest of the country. More and more right-thinking people are in support of the deal, including former President APJ Abdul Kalam and Mr Brajesh Mishra, Principal Secretary to the former Prime Minister,'' he said. Dr Singh said the deal protects our strategic interests and will help enlarge the country's energy options. -- (UNI) -- 17DR31.xml
