No shortage of foodgrains in HP Shimla | Saturday, May 17 2008 IST
The Himachal Pradesh Civil Supplies Department today claimed that there was no shortage of foodgrains in the state and the government was providing essential commodities to all ration card holders on reasonable rates. An official spokesman said there were 14.50 lakh ration card holders at present, who were being provided wheat, flour, rice, pulses, edible oil and kerosene oil with other commodities at subsidised rates every month. He said that ration cards were issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department in the urban areas and by Gram Panchyats in the rural areas. ''The process of preparing ration cards is transparent and no incidents of fake cards have come to light so far,'' he added. The spokesman said sufficient quantity of wheat flour provided under the PDS was available and the quota for June had been allocated for each district with the ensured availability in the state. ''The government is sensitive towards the issue of price rise and is taking effective steps to control the rising prices. All the business establishments are under strict vigil under the Essential Commodities Act 1955 norms,'' he said. -- (UNI) -- 17DR24.xml
