Another infant dies after vaccination

A 45-day-old infant died 12 hours after being given a Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus (DPT) vaccination shot at Poosaripatti near here two days ago. According to delayed reports received by the district headquarters here today, the baby developed fever after being administered the vaccine at a Primary Health Centre at Aniyapur. The infant's parents, Palanisamy and Vijaya, reportedly gave the baby paracetamol tablets as prescribed by the doctor. The temperature came down initially, but shot up again and the baby died at 2100 hrs.

Viswanathan of Government Medical College, here, who examined the body, suspected asphyxiation during feeding. Doctors are awaiting the result of post-mortem, sources at public health department said.
