A court here today remanded Sandeep Acharyaa alias Raja, the prime accused in the murder of Biranchi Das, the coach of marathon kid Budhia, in judicial custody till May 24. Raja Acharaya was arrested in Goa on May 5. He was brought to Bhubaneswar on a transit remand by a special five-member police team. The gangster was remanded to five-day police custody on May 7 for further interrogation. Raja was sent to Bhubaneswar jail after police urged the court to send him to jail after his remand period was over. Police prayed the court to shift him to Khurda jail but the court ordered him to be sent to Bhubaneswar jail after his counsel opposed it. The gangster was absconding since the coach was shot dead here on April 13. Before being produced in the court, Raja was taken to hospital for a check-up after he complained of uneasiness. At the hospital the gangster denied his link with any political party and his involvement in the Biranchi Das murder case.
