Women crusade against illicit liquor shops in HP Nahan | Sunday, May 11 2008 IST
Following the Himachal Pradesh governments failure to act against illicit liquor shops in Sirmaur district, the women of the district have taken upon themselves the responsibility to rid the area of these shops. Women committees have attacked shops and dhabas selling illicit liquor in Kafota, Kamrau, Tilodhar, Chandhi and Jamta areas in the district, besides beating up the customers. Their violent protest followed a strict warning to such shops and dhabas not to sell illicit liquor. The novel protest by the district women has found support from district DSP Virender Thakur, who welcomed their initiative. Such action in other parts of the area will help in curtailing the unlawful activities on its own, he said. -- (UNI) -- 11DR84.xml
