Wet morning in Delhi: thundershowers and hail lash lower HP

Delhiites woke up to a wet morning today as showers hit the city in the wee hours, bringing down the temperature only for a few hours while thundershowers, followed by hail, lashed the lower parts of Himachal Pradesh. Delhi received a total of 3.4 mm rainfall, which brought down the minimum temperature to 21.4 degrees Celsius, as against yesterday's 26.5 degrees. However, the humidity and temperature rose during the day, with the maximum recorded at 36.9 degrees.

Thundershowers, followed by hail lashed the lower parts of Himachal Pradesh, while some remote areas experienced mild intermittent snowfall, plummeting temperatures across the state. The maximum temperature in Shimla fell by about two degrees to 19.9 degrees.

Patna and its suburbs continued to reel under severe heat as the mercury level remained high with maximum temperature being recorded at 37 degrees, with the maximum relative humidity remaining moderate at 49 per cent.

Kolkata continues tryst with heat despite last night's squall and thundershowers, with the maximum temperature rising marginally to 37.2 degrees.

The maximum temperature changed little over Andhra Pradesh, as heat wave conditions prevailed in some districts of the state. While the highest maximum temperature of 44 degrees was recorded at Khammam, Nellore, Ongole, the temperature was significantly above normal at a few places, including Coastal Andhra Pradesh and above normal at a few places over Telangana and Rayalaseema. Gulbarga district in North Karnataka reeled under heat wave conditions with the mercury soaring to 45 degrees, whereas Vijayawada recorded 45.8 degrees, the highest in this season.

The other districts in Hyderabad-Karnataka region like Raichur, Bellary and Bijapur also experienced severe heat wave conditions.

Heat wave conditions also continued in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, with Chandrapur recording a maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees, making it the hottest place in the state, followed by Nagpur at 42.8 degrees and Jalgaon at 40.3 degrees. The death toll due to sun-strokes stood static at four in the district.

Lucknow experienced a little respite from hot weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh at 39 degrees, after rains lashed isolated parts of the state last week. Orai was recorded the hottest place at 44.2 degrees.` Madhya Pradesh received light rainfall, resulting in a slight drop of temperature as the state capital recorded 37.8 degrees three notches below normal. However, Rewa, Sidhi and Khajuraho were the hottest place recording 41 degrees. Day temperature was appreciably above normal in Manipur and in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Orissa, south Chattisgarh and in some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Saurashtra, Konkan, Goa, and in remaining parts of Tamil Nadu. They were appreciably to markedly below normal in some parts of Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Kutch, Gujarat Region, Haryana, Rajasthan and of Gujarat Region. Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and at a few places in Assam, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, east Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar and at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa, Haryana, west Rajasthan, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather has prevailed in Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa.
