Kolkata continues tryst with heat Kolkata | Sunday, May 11 2008 IST
The city continued its tryst with heat despite last night's squall and thundershowers. The maximum temperature rose marginally to 37.2 degrees Celsius from yesterday's 37 degrees. However, the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.2 degrees, four degrees below normal, Alipore Met officials said. The Met office predicted that the sky will remain partly cloudy tomorrow, with the possibility of rain or thundershowers in some areas towards the night. The maximum temperature will be around 37 degrees Celsius. Rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at many places in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, while thunder squall, with speed reaching between 50 to 60 kmph, at isolated places over West Bengal during the next 24 hours. Gangetic West Bengal too is expected to experience rain or thundershower in some isolated places. Rainfall, in the last 24 hours, has been recorded at 18.2 mm. The Met officials here said that southwest monsoon has set in over parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, among other areas of the region. -- (UNI) -- 11CA29.xml
