Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the state government was committed to the welfare of women. 'Mother is living god for us. It is the responsibility of every individual to respect the mother. No life for the people who ignore their mother,' he said while interacting with women members of the Self-Help Group (SHGs) on the occasion of 'Mothers Day.' ''I had taken up several measures for the uplift of women with the inspiration of my mother,'' he told the members. ''When I undertook the padayatyra during 2003, my mother told me to provide loans for the women with low interest rates in order to improve their economic conditions. My mother's message inspired me a lot and I did the same thing as soon as I assumed charge. I will strive hard in futrue for the welfare of women,'' he said them. Stating that the Congress had given tickets for three women candidates in the ensuing by-elections for the 16 Assembly constituencies, he said major opposition parties in the state had not given such a chance to women members though they were talking about the welfare of women.
