UPCA puts its version over ICC remarks Kanpur | Sunday, May 11 2008 IST
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) today sharply reacted on International Cricket Council's (ICC) remarks over Green park stadium's pitch in South Africa-India second test match here, after the match concluded in three days. The sports secretary (Administration) Prem Dhar Pathak said if match was decided in three day it does not mean that quality of pitch was not upto the mark. Pathak said earlier too various five days matches concluded in three days, including in countries like Australia and England. In 1952, a Test match was played between India and England at Green park stadium and result was declared evaluating three days play. Indian team scored 121 runs in first innings and 151 runs in second under the skipper Vijay Hazare. India had lost the Test by eight wickets. He said even Ahmedabad Test was decided in three days, but no comment were made as South Africa had won the match. There was a possibility of hot weather affecting the cricket pitch, but that affected both the teams, however, he maintained that they have full respect for ICC suggestions and would act accordingly in future to met their expectations. -- (UNI) -- 11SPD19.xml
