Trackmen killed Coimbatore | Sunday, May 11 2008 IST
Two trackmen were killed and another six injured, one of them seriously, when the trolley, in which they set out to carry out a check along the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) line, went out of control near the Coonoor station today. A Railway Official told UNI that two of the victims P Kandasamy (52) and Madhan (55) fell from the speeding trolley, and died on the spot. The remaining trackmen, however, jumped to safety. The injured were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) hospital, while the seriously injured was shifted to a private hospital here. The trolley was stopped by PWD Inspector Sanjeev Kumar about three km away from the mishap spot. The Southern Railways has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident. The NMR train service between Mettupalayam and Coonoor had been stopped for two days and was likely to resume service from Tuesday, the official said. -- (UNI) -- 11MR10.xml
