Advani's projection as next PM indication of dangerous plans:Pawar

The projection by the Bharatiya Janata Party of Leader of the Opposition L K Advani as its prime ministerial candidate was an indication of ''dangerous plans'', The Nationalist Congress Party said today. Addressing the national convention of the party, Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar said as the country was nearing Lok Sabha elections, BJP has started projecting its ''evergreen'' (sadabahar) leader Mr Advani as the prime ministerial candidate. ''It is unfortunate for a majority of Indians that this plan is being executed with dangerous intentions,'' he said. ''People remember Mr Advani as a person responsible for the Babri mosque demolition and spreading communal hatered...he later shed crocodile tears and termed the demolition the most painful episode of his life,'' he said taking a swipe at the BJP leader. Mr Pawar claimed that while Mr Advani is being projected on the lines of Sardar Patel, he had proved to be a disaster as Home Minister. ''India witnessed the maximum number of terrorist incidents during his tenure as Home Minister,'' Mr Pawar added. ''Responsible citizens also cannot ignore his open defence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after the post-Godhra riots,'' he said, adding the very presence of the BJP leader in the political arena will ''poison'' the political atmosphere. Unhappy with the 'big brother' attitude of the Congress towards junior allies in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), NCP in its political resolution said the India-US nuclear deal should be signed only after the Left parties agree to it. Though the NCP is in favour of the deal, the political resolution discussed at its extended working committee meeting here yesterday clearly spelt out the partys opposition to any confrontation with the Left parties over it.
