Hnahthial ready to shed blood Aizawl | Sunday, May 11 2008 IST
Hnahthial District Demand Committee(HDDC) today vowed to shed blood if it would lead to fulfillment of to their long-standing demand for the district. ''How much blood does our leader(read chief minister Zoramthanga) demand for the creation of Hnahthial district?'' V L Liansanga, information secretary of HDDC questioned while speaking to UNI here. ''Even as the hunger strike entered its 14th day on Sunday, the state government has still not paid any heed,'' lamented Liansanga. ''To show our disappointment over the government's indifference towards our demands, we will hang black flags from today. ''Black flags will fly over all buildings in Hnahthial and all vehicles will sport the same. The governments indifference clearly shows that it will remain unnerved even if we die fasting here,'' Liansanga lamented. The HDCC also vowed to carry on with the proposed road blockade on the NH 54 at Hnahthial and a meeting in this regard will be held on Wednesday to finalise it. ''We dont mean to impose economic blockade against the southern parts of Mizoram. We apologise to the people of southern Mizoram as this activity is unavoidable in the process of our demand,'' Liansanga said. As many as 31 Hnahthial activists, including 17 women, have undertaken the fast-unto-death strtike at Mizo Students Union office below Vanapa Hall here. -- (UNI) -- 11CA25.xml
