World's largest tea party takes place

World's largest tea party, attended by a record-beaking 32,681 people, was organised here at the sprawling Nehru stadium.

The previous record of the tea party was of 14,751 people, which was held in October 2006 in Japan.

Dainik Bhaskar, a media group having various publications, was the main promoter of this programme held yesterday.

Indore Mayor Umashashi Sharma and Bhaskar group chairman Rameshchandra Agrawal were given a citation of creating a record by the Guinness book of world records on the occasion after a head-count of those who had sipped a cup of tea, while listening to the enthralling songs of Krishna (Chak de-Maula fame) and Shreya Ghoshal (Devdas fame).

The citation was handed over to the mayor by Ms Francesca D'Asdia of the Guinness book of world records.

Earlier, addressing the press conference state head of Bhaskar group Aneil Mahajan said 2,500 litre of milk and equal quantity of water apart from 150 kg tea powder and 250 kg sugar were used to prepare tea and it was distributed in 500 containers by 980 volunteers and the especially made cups had writing of 25 years of Bhaskar group.

An Indore anthem penned by lyricist Rahat Indori and sung by Shankar Mahadevan was also played on the occasion. Public Works Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and other bureaucrats were also present on the occaison.
