Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced to constitute a 11-member Advisory Committee to aid and advise the state government on matters and issues relating to the welfare of the NRIs. Presiding over the Punjabi NRI Sammelan here on the second day, Mr Badal said that seven to eight members would be taken on the Committee amongst the eminent NRIs from different countries having a fairly large population of Punjabi diaspora and the remaining members would be from the government of Punjab in consultation with the NRIs. Referring to the other welfare measures announced by him yesterday on the first day of the Sammelan held at Chandigarh, Mr Badal said the state government had decided to set up NRI Police Stations in six districts of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Nawashahar, Moga and Ludhiana for the quick disposal of cases involving NRIs. Besides the government had also decided to set up an empowered committee headed by the Chief Secretary on NRI affairs. He also announced the setting up of a NRI Information-cum-facilitation center at Amritsar International Airport to provide information to NRIs regarding various schemes and projects. Likewise he also announced to open an office of NRIs affairs at Jalandhar for their welfare of the Doaba region - the heartland of the NRIs in Punjab. Punjab moved at unusual quick pace under the leadership of Sardar Badal. It was a proud moment to listen to Sardar Sukhbir Badal listing progress in so many areas of government initiatives at NRI samelan.

| I applaud the chief minister for the initiative. Does not matter for how long the born in Punjab lives abroad, the love of the mother land lives in the hearts. Punjab can cultivate this for the development and direction towards good of people.
