Vanu Inc's R&D centre in Bangalore

Vanu Inc, leader in development of software radio solutions for cellular operators, today announced the opening of its Research and Development Centre in Bangalore, besides initiating marketing of software solutions for base station platform for GSM and CDMA applications.

Company CEO Vanu Bose told UNI that the company was already working with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) for a software match for its Rural Automatic Exchanges that could change the scene of communication delivery in rural areas with minimal costs.

The Centre, which would initially have only around seven engineers, would be ramped up by 2008 end when it would start development of software solutions for 3G and 4G waforms in the country.

Dr Bose said already the company had taken up certain demonstration projects with C-DOT in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi and its solutions were also being tested for interoperability in Nortel switches.

Besides India, South American and the US markets offered great scope for marketing the new communciation technology, especially in the spectrum shrunk environment.

Dr Bose said the technology developed by the company had been deployed in rural areas of North America and had gained recognition as the wireless industry's only infrastructure solution to simultaneously operate multiple standards on a single system. For wireless operators in India, the ability to run GSM and CDMA simultaneously on a single network, helps them to take advantages of many of the spectrum rule changes under discussion.

He said the company besides ramping up its research base in Bangalore would also be setting up marketing teams in Mumbai and Delhi, besides building technical support groups.
