Half of new runway at IGI Airport completed New Delhi | Monday, Oct 29 2007 IST
Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) today denied the possibility of any delay while modernising and restructuring the IGI airport buildings and runways. Chief development officer I.P. Rao said the third runway being constructed will be completed by June next year as scheduled. ''Over half of the work on third runway christened ''11-29'' is complete. It will be commissioned by mid-2008,'' he told reporters while making a detailed presentation. The GMR group-led DIAL is racing against time to revamp the congested airport terminal buildings and runways. The target is to complete the first phase ahead of Commonwealth Games in 2010. DIAL has drafted a master plan for development of the airport site which in its first phase will see the addition of a new runway and an integrated passenger terminal building to serve both international and domestic passengers. In addition, a brand new domestic terminal and a modernised Terminal 2 will serve passengers as well. -- (UNI) -- 29DC19.xml
