Civil Judge among 15 killed in Quetta district court blast Quetta | February 17, 2007 6:06:21 PM IST
At least 15 persons, including a senior civil judge, were killed and over 25 wounded this morning in a powerful blast at Quetta district court's licence branch. The blast occurred in the chamber of civil judge Abdul Wahid Durrani, police said. The blast claimed 14 lives, including the civil judge, the police confirmed. Over 25 persons were injured in the blast, with four of them said to be in a precarious state. Among the injured, most are said to be lawyers, reported The News. According to police, the blast could be a suicide attack as a head and a body of an unidentified person also found from the spot. Investigative agencies are investigating into the incident, and district authorities declared emergency in Civil Hospital Quetta. Federal interior ministry has said that the blast occurred at 11:05 am in the compound between civil court and the licence branch. Following the blast, the Karachi Police declared high alert and issued directives to DIG Operations and all town police officers for tightening security at key points of the city and increase police patrolling. Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim have condemned the Quetta blast and expressed sympathy with victims. In a message to Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Muhammad Yousuf they have termed the blast a crime against humanity. (ANI)
