Housing scheme for MP's urban poor

The Central government has sanctioned Rs 82.58 crore scheme to construct 5986 houses for the urban poor in Khandwa, Dewas, Damoh, Balaghat, Berasia and Kurwai towns in Madhya Pradesh. The scheme aims at providing shelter to the urban slum dwellers to ensure them decent living in clean and healthy atmosphere. Integrated housing and slum development programme was launched by merging the national slum eradication programme and Valmiki Ambedkar housing scheme, Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Jayant Malaiyya said. About one lakh houses, each having two rooms, kitchen and toilet, are scheduled to be constructed for the slum dwellers in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain cities covered under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Under the scheme, the Centre provides 80 per cent funds, while the remaining is shared equally by the state government and the urban body concerned. UNI SP PDM RK1335
