Septuagenarian freedom fighter to celebrate golden jubilee of marriage
New Delhi | November 23, 2006 8:08:51 PM IST

With a growing number of GenX youngsters showing disinterest in the institution of marriage, the golden jubilee celebration of Khairati Lal Bhola, a septuagenarian social activist, from New Ranjit Nagar in West Delhi, is likely to inspire many of them.

On completing fifty years of his marriage, held in Uttar Pradesh's Ferozabad District in 1956 November 27, Bhola Ram, the veteran freedom fighter and social activist, Bhola Ram, is organising the day as Golden jubilee marriage anniversary in a special function.

To commemorate the special day, Bhola Ram has decided to re-marry his wife, Sheela Rani, 68, in a simple wedding function.

According to Bhola Ram, it was his wife who motivated him to launch a crusade for legalisation of prostitution and orphans' welfare.

"We are organising this Golden jubilee marriage anniversary to inspire today's youngster to value and understand the concept of marriage. Youngsters should learn a lesson or two from how we have led a happy married life for fifty glorious years. It was my wife who encouraged me to fight for sex workers and orphans. She has always been a great help at home and active partner in social work," said Bhola Ram, the bridegroom-to-be.

About 70 personal invites have been sent in the form of letters for the function and an estimated 100 people are likely to attend the wedding function.

"It would be a two-hour function (3.00 to 5.00 p.m) on Sunday. A yajna (fire ritual) will be organised as per Hindu Arya Samaj culture, which will be followed by me and my wife garlanding each other," said Bhola Ram.

The couple--Bhola Ram and Sheela Rani--lives a happy married life in a West and their family comprises -three sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren who live at different places in Delhi. (ANI)
