At least twenty-nine people, including nine women and ten children, lost their lives when a truck fell from a bridge into a drain at Piparia near Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The accident occurred when a truck carrying labourers was on its way to Bankhedi. Another 46 were also injured in the accident, the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Hoshangabad, Faiz Ahmed said. Officials and eyewitnesses said the truck driver had apparently lost control while trying to give way to another vehicle coming from opposite direction. "Another vehicle was coming in from the opposite direction. The other vehicle switched on the beam light, which probably confused the truck driver and resulted in the disaster. I saw people crying for help, I gave them water and immediately called police," said Tekchand, an eyewitness. The injured have been admitted in the hospital at Piprisa. The fifteen critically injured have been shifted to a hospital in Hamidia Government Hospital in. A case was registered against seven persons, including the truck driver and the labour contractor at Piparia police station. (ANI)
