JD (U) protests against the UPA government's SEZ policy New Delhi | October 12, 2006 9:07:34 PM IST
On the occasion of 39th death anniversary of noted socialist and freedom fighter Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia, members and supporters of Janata Dal (United) staged a rally in New Delhi today to protest against the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy of the United Progressive Alliance Government. According to JD (U), SEZ programme encroaches upon farmlands and it is against the interest of common man. JD (U) has proposed a long-term programme to protest the Central Government's SEZ policy. Party Secretary General K C Tyagi led the protest, which was attended by more than 300 party members. "Expensive and productive farm lands are being encroached upon in the name of SEZs. The Congress, the Bhartiya Janta Party and the Communist Party of India oppose SEZ; still no concrete policy decision has been taken by the government,' said K C Tyagi, Secretary General, Janata Dal (United). Earlier, JD (U) Chief Sharad Yadav had asked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to fragment the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act and to cancel all the corresponding SEZ proposals. (ANI)
