Deori asserts to strengthen Congress in Arunachal Itanagar | August 29, 2006 3:46:22 PM IST
Newly appointed Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Padmashree Omem Moyong Deori today made it clear her efforts would be to unite all party cadres irrespective of status, in order to strengthen the party. Addressing a press conference here this morning the long serving Congress Working Committee (CWC) member said her first priority would be to revive the party and to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Gegong Apang and AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. The APCC chief while denying any differences within the party clarified that ''we in Arunachal pass most of out time in friendship making''. Expressing her desire to see the Congress get majority in the next Parliamentary elections, Mrs Deori, while referring to frequent charges levelled by opposition against the chief minister, said, ''We have to safeguard our government'', adding ''no body should be spared trying to break the government''. When asked the reason for appointing her as the APCC chief, Mrs Deori candidly replied that her loyalty and dedication to the party counted. She was the only lady in the entire North East, who never left Congress even in times of distress, she added. Mrs Deori would soon dissolve the Pradesh Congress Committee and re-install it with a new set of office bearers. To a question regarding her initiative to bring more centrally sponsored schemes to the state, the veteran Congress leader informed she would plead Centre for more funds for economic development of the state. Speaking at the press conference APCC working President Takam Sanjoy, who was strong contender for the coveted post, while assuring his unstinted support to Mrs Deori said it was her sincerity and loyalty to the Congress that bore fruits.
