Tripura AITC organises Mahakaran Abhiyan
Agartala | August 22, 2006 12:46:05 PM IST

Tripura unit of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) today organised a 'Mahakaran Abhiyan' and courted arrest in front of the State Civil Secretariat in support of its charter of demands.

More than 170 supporters, including a number of leaders, were arrested by the police and later released, AITC leader Dulal Das said.

Police stopped party supporters while they were proceeding towards the Secretariat to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

They demanded reduction in prices of essential commodities and electricity, improvement in law and order, financial help to those who lost their property following barbed wire fencing in border areas with Bangladesh and better education, Mr Das added.
