ABVP, AIATF protest against Mumbai blasts
Mumbai | July 12, 2006 6:07:35 PM IST

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students' wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Ahmedabad, today staged a protest against the seven coordinated bomb blasts in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Shouting slogans against terrorism, the members of ABVP demanded that the government should give a statement on the blasts and who were behind them.

"The ABVP demands that the government should give a statement on the blasts and find out who is behind the blasts. We also condemn in strong words the blasts in Mumbai," said Chirag Patel, member, ABVP.

They also burnt an effigy in the name of terrorism. The country's financial hub shook on Tuesday when seven blasts damaged the vital commuter rail network killing at least 183 people.

In Amritsar, Members of All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF) also condemned the bomb blasts in Srinagar and Mumbai. The front organised an anti-terrorism protest against the ISI and Pakistan.

Carrying placards of 'ISI Murdabad', 'War Against terrorism', 'Pakistan Murdabad', 'Stop terrorism', the members of All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF), Amritsar sends a clear message to all the secret agencies of Pakistan to stop terrorism in India.

"We can clearly make out from the bomb blasts that the Indian intelligence has failed badly. We need to understand that the secret agencies of Pakistan are responsible for the deaths of so many innocent people. And responsibility lies with all the secret agencies. ISI of Pakistan is after India's peaceful environment. Why our agencies have not got any report earlier about the blasts? Today we came out with the rally under Anti-Terrorist Front to protest against Pakistan," said Mahender Singh Siddu, President of All India Anti-Terrorist Front, Amritsar Chapter.

The rallyists termed the assurance of peace by Pakistan and its denial in the blasts as bogus.

"Through this protest rally today, we are paying homage to the people who died in the blasts. We are protesting against ISI and Pakistan. Indian Prime Minister and the President of Pakistan has a series of amicable talks but all went in vain. Still Pakistan is not stopping terrorism in our country. Pakistan is encouraging ISI to destroy India's peace with these bomb blasts. It is the responsibility of the President of Pakistan. He is the guiding force behind all this. He may have given lot of lectures on peace but his intentions are not good," added Mahender Singh Siddu, President of All India Anti-Terrorist Front, Amritsar Chapter.

The members burnt effigy of President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf and the National flag of Pakistan to vent their anger.

Earlier, the police in Kashmir blamed the attacks there on the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group, which authorities say is backed by Pakistan and was also behind bomb blasts in crowded markets in New Delhi last October that killed more than 60 people.

Newspapers have also quoted unnamed security sources as naming Lashkar as the prime suspect for the Mumbai blasts. Pakistan, which denies Indian charges of tacit support for the militants, condemned what it called a "terrorist attack" in Mumbai.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma had said that the blasts were aimed at "wrecking" the peace process between the nuclear-armed rivals but New Delhi remained committed to improving ties with Islamabad.

Nearly 700 people were wounded when the bombs blew apart railway carriages and stations packed with rush-hour commuters in a space of just 11 minutes at different locations on the Western Railway. (ANI)
