25, including Rajnath's neice killed in road mishaps in UP

BJP president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh's neice was among 25 people killed in different accidents in the state in the past 24 hours.

Police said Kalpana (8) -- daughter of Rajnath's brother-in-law (husband of wife's sister) Shyam Singh -- was travelling on a motorcycle with her parents, in the afternoon, when it collided with a tractor at Halia of Mirzapur district, killing her on the spot.

Her parents also sustained grievous injuries and were rushed to hospital.

However, the tractor driver fled the scene.

A case had been registered.

Police said five persons died in two separate road accidents in the state capital. In the first accident, four labourers were killed when a truck crushed them under Mohanlalgunj Police Station area last night. In another accident, a person was killed under the Banthag Police Station area.

In Kanpur, three persons, who jumped in a well to rescue a buffalo calf which had fallen in a well, died after inhaling poisonous gas here in the wee hours.

Police said Lakshman (35), his brother Kapil (30) and Sahab (35) jumped in a well to rescue the calf. But they soon fell unconscious after inhaling poisonous gases.

Their bodies were later recovered by fire brigade personnel.

The incident took place in Gulahara village under Kakawan police station of Kanpur Nagar district.

Two persons were killed and ten injured when the bus in which they were travelling, overturned in Etawah district today.

A two-year-old girl was killed when she was crushed by a tree in Padvaripur village of Sultanpur district in the state.

About 13 other persons were killed in different accidents in various parts of the state.
