Poll results will have impact on national politics: Naidu
Kottayam | April 11, 2006 5:34:08 PM IST

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said the results of the Assembly elections would have a bearing on the national political situation.

At a meet-the-press programme here, he claimed that the poll results might lead to uncertainty and affect the future of the UPA Government.

Stating that almost all parties in the UPA were unhappy with the performance of the Congress-led UPA, he said the CPI(M) and others had serious differences on the foreign, economic, reforms, disinvestment, labour and other policies of the UPA.

''If the Communists won the elections in Kerala and West Bengal, they would apply more pressure on the government and it might even affect the UPA Government,'' Mr Naidu noted.

On the prospect of a Third Front, the BJP leader said it was only a 'dream' and there was no possibility for such a front. Since the BJP and Congress were two major parties, excluding them no front was possible in the country under the present situation. ''Further, if a third front was formed, the present UPA Government would go and the BJP would be happy,'' he added.

''The Communists were only barking and would not bite,'' Mr Naidu said adding that the UDF and LDF were both sides of the same coin.

Mr Naidu expressed the confidence that the BJP would open its account in the Assembly elections in Kerala.
