Sonia to address election meetings in Kerala

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will campaign for the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates on April 18.

She will reach Kochi on April 18 and proceed to Kottayam where she would address an election rally, Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala said in a release here today.

Ms Gandhi will also address public meetings at Pathanamthitta and Kollam in the afternoon.

In the evening, she will address an election meeting at Neyyattinkara, about 20 Km from here.

The AICC chief would return to New Delhi the same day. She will be addressing meetings where elections are held in the first phase on April 22.

Earlier, there were reports that she would campaign for the second phase of polls during April 24-25.

In the first phase 59 constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Kottayam districts would go to the polls.

The second phase will see elections in 66 constituencies in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts on April 29.

The third phase will be held in the two districts of Kannur and Kasaragode on May three. The counting of votes would take place on May 11.
