Cong hopes for exceptionally good show in Assembly polls New Delhi | April 10, 2006 6:46:01 PM IST
The Congress today expressed the confidence that it would form a Government in Asom and the party and its allies would do exceptionally well in the other States going to the Assembly elections.Congress Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan told reporters here that the party had been getting the internal party reports which spoke of the Congress and its allies being favourably placed in the election-going States. "We expect to put up exceptional performance." Replying to questions, she said the party also hoped to form a Government in Kerala. As for W.Bengal, the feedback from party workers indicated that the party's performance in that state would be "excellent." Asked whether the results of the Assembly elections would be a referendum on the performance of the UPA Government, Ms Natrajan said "the excellent performance of the UPA Government would definitely find reflection in the results." She said the news reports and the feedback from party workers indicated that the so-called Suraksha Yatra by Mr L.K.Advani and Mr Rajnath Singh had not evoked any response or attracted any attention from the people, let alone receiving support from them. The BJP, Ms Natrajan said ,had lost all the relevance as it lacked the basic vision to perform as a constructive and responsible opposition.Instead of highlighting issues of public importance it had chosen to go on Yatras which would only help divide the society.
