KC should think of merger with mainstream party: Pillai
Thiruvananthapuram | April 07, 2006 5:47:24 PM IST

Kerala Congress (B) leader and former Minister R Balakrishna Pillai today said all the Kerala Congress factions should think of merging with a national mainstream party as there was no possibility of the various factions coming together.

''The Kerala Congress was formed with an aim but today it has no relevance. In this circumstance, it is better to merge with a national mainstream party,'' he told newspersons here during a live programme conducted by the Kesari Memorial Journalists' Trust.

On the coming assembly elections, Mr Pillai said there was no anti-incumbency factor and expressed confidence in the United Democratic Front's victory. During the last five years, Kerala had seen development in all spheres like education, agriculture and infrastructure. The UDF government was able to attract more investments in the State, he added.

He said the smaller constituents in the UDF did not face any problem as was seen in the seat sharing. But in the LDF, the CPI(M) had taken away the seats from the smaller constituents, he said and added in the coming days, the smaller constituents, would be of no relevance in the LDF.

When asked about the PDP siding with the LDF in this election, he said the PDP did not pose a threat to the UDF.

Mr Pillai said he did not believe that the LDF would be able to garner all the PDP votes.
