LDF win in Kerala will strengthen Left: Vijayan Pathanamthitta | April 06, 2006 10:45:16 PM IST
CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today said an Left Democratic Front (LDF) victory in the coming Kerala Assembly elections will weaken the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and strengthen the Left at the national level. The LDF's anti-imperialistic stance would reinforce anti-American sentiments of the people and deal a blow to the extra-constitutional power centre represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said, while inaugurating an LDF election meeting here. Criticising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh siding with the US in the vote against Iran during the International Atomic Energy Agency meet, he condemned the United Progressive Alliance for deviating from the Common Minimum programme and discarding the time-tested non-alignment policy postulated by Jawaharlal Nehru. Refuting the allegation that the LDF was against development programmes initiated by the UDF government, Mr Vijayan said during the five years of UDF rule, Kerala's traditional culture was destroyed and a 'mafia culture' had been fostered.
