Jaya calls free TV promise impractical Tiruvarur Tamil Nadu | April 05, 2006 8:34:39 PM IST
AIADMK General Secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa termed as impractical, the opposition DMK's poll promise of providing free colour TVs to all households in the state. The AIADMK supremo, on a whirlwind campaign for the May eight Assembly elections, told reporters last night, the DMK was trying to fool people as its promise could not be implemented by anyone. It would require Rs 15,000 crore to fulfill the promise, even if ration card holders alone were taken into account for distribution of colour TVs, she said. To another question, Ms Jayalalithaa said she had been receiving overwhelming response from the people everywhere. Earlier, she began the campaign from here and urged the people to vote for the AIADMK. Addressing wayside meetings, the AIADMK supremo resolved that she would ensure justice for Cauvery Delta farmers. The Chief Minister said the AIADMK Government had placed a blueprint for creating a Cauvery Delta Authority with powers to implement the Tribunal's award. She said her Government had moved the Supreme Court to get Karnataka to release water due to Tamil Nadu. She alleged the DMK poll manifesto was silent on the Cauvery issue. Ms Jayalalithaa also listed various welfare schemes launched by her Government to benefit the poor in Tiruvarur district. UNI XR-AKN PA RAI1918
