AIADMK workers resort to dharna demanding change of candidate Coimbatore | April 02, 2006 4:33:45 PM IST
Over 300 AIADMK workers, including a large number of women, today resorted to dharna for more than four hours before the party district headquarters 'Idhya Deivam Maligai' demanding change of the AIADMK candidate at Singanallur assembly constituency here for the ensuing poll. The AIADMK had announced that the INTUC leader Chinnasamy will contest from the constituency on AIADMK symbol. The agitators said the constituency, comprises 17 wards, in which the AIADMK has eight Wards and MDMK one Ward. The candidate had burnt Ms Jayalalithaa in effigy earlier and it was suicidal to allot this constituency to INTUC, they alleged. The newspersons and Office Secretary had a heated exchange when the scribes were asked to leave the office. The mediamen retaliated stating that they had come at the request of party people. However, no minister or district presidents of the party were available for comment as they had a meeting in a private hotel. The security had been tightened in and around the party office.
