Nizamuddin, Md Ali, INL candidates for TN polls
Chennai | April 02, 2006 4:33:40 PM IST

The Indian National League (INL), which was allotted two seats by the ruling AIADMK to contest the May eight Assembly polls, today announced the name of its candidates.

Addressing a press conference here, INL State Pesident M Basheer Ahmed said Mr K M Nizamuddin would contest from Palayamkottai and Muhammad Ali from the Vaniyambadi assembly seats.

Mr Basheer also released the party's manifesto, which promised that the INL would make all efforts to secure separate reservation for Muslims in Education and employment.

It also announced that the party would speed up efforts to secure the release of minority community members, who were languishing in prisons for the last eight years.

It said innocent people were arrested after the 1998 serial bomb blasts in Coimbatore during the previous DMK regime.

The manifesto also promised that the party would make sincere efforts to reduce the price of rice given under the Public distribution system.

It also stated that the party would hold talks with secular parties to bring in Constitutional amendments allowing the state government to decide the quantum of reservation based on the population.

Replying to questions, Mr Basheer Ahmed said the Muslims would vote in large numbers and the AIADMK-led combine would sweep the assembly polls.
