For Lucknows Prajapati community, Mulayam Singh is God Lucknow | March 26, 2006 5:13:40 PM IST Inclusion of one community in the Scheduled Caste list could turn you into a God. This is what exactly has been done by the Prajapati community of Uttar Pradesh. After Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav included the community into the scheduled caste list, the members of the community held special prayers for the long life of Yadav and declared that from now on he will be revered as the communitys God. Mulayam attained this position after he proposed that Prajapatis, along with 15 other castes, should be given schedule caste status and its benefits. This he had proposed to the Union Government on October 6, 2005. The community then decided to organise a prayer and yagna for his good health and long life outside the Vidhan Sabha. Cabinet Minister Dayaram Prajapati who performed the religious ceremony said: Ambedkar worked for the upliftment of scheduled caste people and thats why schedule caste people have progressed. Similarly, Mulayam Singh has also helped us (Prajapati Community) in getting various benefits. Prajapati Community of Uttar Pradesh has now decided that Mulayam Singh Yadav will be worshiped in their houses. The grand puja ceremony performed by 101 Brahmins filled the atmosphere with religious chants, shlokas and the blowing sounds of conch shells. Dismissing that Mulayams new status would not create any problem, Agnivesh Agnihotri, a priest who was part of the ceremony said: People worship Lord Rama and Lord Krishna and some people worship their guru (spiritual leaders) on the day of Guru Purnima. Prajapati community has accepted Mulayam Singh Yadav as their Guru and nobody should have any problem with it. The greeting have also been changed as the community now, as have started greeting each other with Jai Mulayam slogan just on the lines of Jai Bhim used by Scheduled Caste for Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Prajapatis community are the traditional potters who are mostly settled in the Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh.(ANI)
