DMI to support AIADMK in ensuing assembly poll Chennai | March 24, 2006 1:44:21 PM IST
The Dravida Makkal Iyakkam (DMI) party has decided to support the ruling AIADMK front in the May 8 elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.In a statement here today, Party's founder President Oviam said right from its inception, the party had continuously extended its support to the AIADMK and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. She said the party is satisfied with the performance of the AIADMK administration and especially, the government's timely relief and rehabilitation assistance to the tsunami victims in 2004, and for the rain affected persons in different parts of the state recently. Ms Oviam said the party urged Ms Jayalaithaa to allot two seats for DMI in the ensuing assembly poll and hoped that Chief Minister would consider their request. She said the party's state office-bearers meeting will be held at Coimbatore on March 26, to chalkout the election programme, besides holding discussions to strengthen the party's base further.
