SRMC tie up with SHAR to provide staff, family medical aid

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota and Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) have joined hands to provide medical services to the staff and family members of the Department of Space at SHAR.

Under the agreement, SRMC would manage the Satish Dhawan Memorial Hospital (SDMH), built by the Department of Space, involving an investment of about Rs eight crore at Sulurpet in Andhra Pradesh.

The facility, inaugurated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair on July one, would provide round-the clock health services to members of about 2,500 families living in Sulurpet and sorrounding areas, a hospital release here said.

Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Physiotherapy were some departments, which would function round the clock with '24 hour pharmacy,' facility.

In all, 75 Medical and para-medical staff, including ten doctors would be permanently posted at the Hospital and super speciality consultations would be provided once in a fortnight.

Staff and family members of Department of Space could avail of the medical services under the Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS), launched by the Department for the benefit of employees.

Mr Nair had inaugurated the hospital in the presence of Mr V R Venkatachalam, Chancellor and Mrs Radha Venkatachalam, Registrar of SRMC and Research Institute and Mr M Annamalai, Director, Satish Dawan Space Centre, SHAR.
