entertainment Half of secondary UK school girls 'want to go for cosmetic surgery'
Nearly half of all secondary school girls would like to go for laser treatment, liposuction or some form of cosmetic surgery to achieve their ideal appearance, a new study has found. The research, carried out by Girl Guides, discovered that 46 per cent of girls aged 11 to 16, and 50 per cent of girls aged 16 to 21 would go under the knife to look thinner or prettier. Just 19 per cent of those whose performance at school was satisfactory or poor said they would never give in to cosmetic surgery. "Girls and young women are telling us that they are finding it quite hard to accept their appearance, and it is starting at a much earlier age than we had previously thought," Times Online quoted Nicola Grinstead, a trustee of Girlguiding UK, as saying. "The survey shows girls as young as 11 are dissatisfied with how they look and are prepared to use surgery to make a change. "The link with education is also clear. Where girls are not doing so well at school they pin their self-worth on their appearance much more," Grinstead added. (ANI)
