Carla Bruni, Metallica perform on 'Jools'
London | September 17, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy sang on an episode of the British music show Later with Jools Holland, which also featured an appearance by Metallica.

Bruni-Sarkozy, 40, was a model and recording artist before she married French President Nicolas Sarkozy last February. She released her third album Comme Si De Rien N'Etait this past summer.

The BBC quoted Bruni-Sarkozy as telling interviewer Holland her head-of-state husband is very kind when it comes to her music.

I play it at home and I disturb him with it in the middle of the night, Bruni-Sarkozy said.

Holland asked the first lady what it was like juggling her roles as singer-songwriter and president's wife. Bruni-Sarkozy recently met Pope Benedict XVI, Queen Elizabeth II and the Dalai Lama while traveling with her husband.

I don't really mix them up -- I separate (the roles,) Bruni-Sarkozy said. I play my music and then I go with my husband when he needs me.

Bruni-Sarkozy was seen on the live television program Tuesday tapping her foot and clapping as the heavy metal band Metallica played songs from its 12th album Death Magnetic.

An extended version of the episode was also taped and is expected to air on BBC Two Friday.
