'Sex and The City' movie stars considering boycotting London premiere
London | May 11, 2008 5:27:13 PM IST

Now that 'Sex and The City' movie is set for its world premiere in London, the cast and crew of the film are planning to boycott it because the big event is not happening in New York.

Both the hit TV series and the movie were filmed in the Big Apple and the city features highly in storylines.

The makers of 'Sex and The City: The Movie' have decided to downsize the film's world premiere in London - after coming under fire for not launching the film in New York.

And the crew of the movie believes that the movie owes a lot to the city so the honour should be given to New York.

"It's ludicrous. New York was the home for the TV series and it's the home of the motion picture," the Daily Star quoted a senior member of production staff, as saying.

"It's a slur to people in Manhattan and Brooklyn, whose lives were disrupted for months during shooting, not to give them the honour of taging the premiere," the member added.

And therefore the cast and crew are planning to snub the London premiere.

A spokesman for movie distributors New Line Cinema said: "Not everyone's going to be there."

New Line said they didn't have a clue which VIP guests were likely to be no-shows in Leicester Square and their spokesman added: "We're hoping the major names will be there."

"But there are no guarantees. Clearly, it's a long haul for crew members and those with smaller roles, though we're sure there will be a decent turn-out," he added

The official reason for deciding to move the premiere from the Big to London was that the release date made it more convenient.

"Everyone knows New York City is like the fifth character. But we were faced with a scheduling problem on our target date. There was nowhere available in New York, so we were forced to switch," New Line executive said.

However, sources said that it was because the show was a much bigger hit in Europe, particularly in Britain, than in America.

New Line executive also revealed that there would now be a Big Apple premiere at New York's famous Radio City Music Hall - but not until May 27.

A source close to Sarah Jessica Parker said: "She's planning to be there in London because she wouldn't dream of letting down her fans." (ANI)
