Bank employees' strike deferred
Chennai |Saturday, 2009 7:05:05 PM IST

A nationwide strike planned by employees of State Bank of India (SBI) and its six associate banks for July 6 against the merger of State Bank of Indore with SBI has been deferred, a union leader said Saturday.

"The bank management has been advised by the deputy chief labour commissioner to discuss the issue with unions before pursuing the merger issue with the Reserve Bank of India and the central government," said C.H. Venkatachalam, general secretary of All India Banks' Employees Association (AIBEA).

He said the unions had decided to defer the strike after the SBI management accepted the labour commissioner's advice.

The boards of State Bank of Indore and SBI had given their green signal for the merger last month.
