Rajasthan chamber urges members to donate for victims

Eager to provide relief to those injured in the serial terror blasts here that also killed over 60 people, the Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has asked its over 10,000 members to donate funds. The chamber also plans to request Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje to allot land to build a memorial to those who died in the nine bomb blasts. About 150 people were injured in the Tuesday evening blasts. K.L. Jain, the honorary secretary general of the chamber, said he has written to all members urging them to make donations so that they can present a consolidated amount for the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. In his letter dated May 16, he also said the chamber and its members have rendered a bit of help by attending to the injured in hospitals and by holding meetings to propagate a peaceful atmosphere. "However, it is the duty of organisations like ours to approach its patrons to wholeheartedly extend financial help through contributions to the Chief Minister's Fund so that succour can be provided adequately and promptly to the suffering people," Jain told IANS. Citing examples of some organisations that have already made financial contributions, he expressed the hope that others would act accordingly. "Rajasthan is a peaceful state and has been presenting a beautiful picture of communal harmony. The state has also progressed economically," Jain said in his letter. "I am quite sure that my request for a humanitarian service-oriented cause shall receive due consideration," he said. Praising the spirit of Jaipur, Jain said he would request Raje to allot land to build a memorial to the victims. "We need to earmark space for a memorial so that we could remember those who lost their lives in such a dastardly act.
