Yahoo! India's Glue Pages bring new search experience
Bangalore | May 16, 2008 2:39:29 PM IST

Searching the net might become quite a different experience thanks to an experiment from Yahoo! India called Glue that yields results with visual information.

Search in.glue.yahoo.com for the term 'India', for example, and what you find is news, images, links, maps, and even sponsored ads -- all related to the second-most populous country on the planet.

"Glue Pages unite your classic search results with visual information from the best sites anywhere on the Web," said Yahoo! India, while recently unveiling this way of finding information.

"In one click, browse through images, videos, articles and more - all on one page! With Glue Pages, you spend more time learning and less time searching," says Yahoo! India, still explaining the new and yet-to-catch-on concept on its in.glue.yahoo.com pages.

Besides, when you search for a term, it also gives you 'related pages' that might be of interest to your search.

For instance, a search for 'India' throws up related pages on Delhi, Mumbai, Pakistan, India forums, India travel, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Glue Pages are being built for major topics. They glean information from a number of sources and put it together, thus making it more powerful.

"In one click, (you can) browse through images, videos, articles and more, all on one page! With Glue Pages, you spend more time learning and less time searching," says Yahoo! India, explaining the concept.

This initiative from India has drawn some attention globally.

Commented webpronews.com: "Anyone who's ever found traditional search results to be a little one-dimensional should be glad to hear that Yahoo's addressing the issue."

"Something called Glue Pages Beta slaps together normal search results, Google Blog Search results, Yahoo Answers results, HowStuffWorks articles, Wikipedia entries, Flickr images, and YouTube videos all in one place," added webpronews, the resource for news, information and tips related to online business.

Yahoo! India said the Glue Pages would offer "a new search experience that is taking the world by storm as we speak -- or should we say write! We've received fantastic feedback!"

The trick has been to get the information on diverse topics and put it together from multiple sources, Wikipedia, YouTube, HolidayIQ, TrainEnquiry and some Yahoo sites like Answers, Local, Flickr and Images.

Interestingly, India was chosen as the first place where it has been tested. Not all search-terms and topics have Glue Pages for them as yet. It is in its beta (testing) stages though.
